This is a introductory workshop to forró, partner dance and was facilitated by Juliana Werner. The Art of The Embrace explore aspects of “body consciousness” and contact with each other as useful tools that can improve the way we dance.
"I started to dance forró about 3 years ago, but I was already a contemporary dancer before. In the beginning when I first started to dance forró it was a bit scary because in contemporary dance you kind of dance by yourself a lot. The most difficult thing for me with forró was the idea that someone else would be leading me and I wouldn't be able to dance the way I believed I would like to dance. Because this idea that when we start to dance a partner dance, the man is the leader and the girl is the follower - for me, it's too simple and life is not like that. We are two people dancing together and it's like a dialogue. This workshop is not going to be focused on forró steps. I'm going to encourage each of you to connect first with yourself and then try to find out how you want to dance. How you feel the music? The music may be saying something for you and another for your partner. How are we going to balance this? So we are going to explore how to express ourselves with other partners dancing at the same time."
