In 1988 gang-related homicides had claimed more than 10,000 young lives in less than five years. 33 active and former gang members working with volunteers from the Hollywood entertainment community did something about it.
The stage play "Crossfire" was produced and video-taped and
then distributed throughout gang-impacted neighborhoods. The result was the Watts Gang Truce which remained in effect for 20 years. This is just a small token of the press coverage. The effort made the front page of the Wall Street Journal and the pages of Esquire Magazine.
