A Study of the End Times - Revelation PM
# 08 - Heaven’s Court In Session 04/08/2018
In chapter 4, we saw the court of heaven being gathered for session before the throne of God. God the Father is there. The cherubim angels, who serve as legal clerks for the grandest court ever are there. The church is there as observers and serving as witnesses of the rights and righteousness of God.
The Sealed Book (vs 1-5)
In vs 1, we find God Himself holding a book or scroll. The scroll seems to be the title deed to not only the earth but the contract of what God promised. Psalm 24:1 says that the earth belongs to the Lord and in Psalm 2:8 God is offering it to His Son.
The scroll is said to have seven seals that kept it from being opened by anyone who wasn’t qualified. Seven is generally the number of completion. This contract/deed contained the details of the end-times and heaven longed to see the Lord claim the earth but the contract could only be put in force by one person.
Vs 2 says a “strong angel”, most think Gabriel, asking who is “worthy to open the book”? In vs 3, the problem is presented as no one was qualified. No one in heaven and that included the church and angels. No man ever lived as a heavenly angel without sin. And no angel ever lived as a man and then died for man.
Throughout history, there have been men who wanted to rule the world: Alexander, Genghis, Caesar, Napoleon. But the question was not who wanted to rule the world…but who was worthy!
