I'm lean practitioner and teacher Bill Peterson, and my specialty is applying lean principles to the business office. I made this video to show exactly what happens when you start too many administrative tasks--we call that "work in process," or WIP. WIP feels like productivity, but it actually provides no value to your customer. In fact, just like filling a funnel too fast, too much WIP creates a mess that has to be cleaned up, at a cost to your bottom line.
There's a reason we keep creating WIP even though it's detrimental to our business--but there's also a way to stop filling the funnel even when outside pressures push us to start more work.
