Quite possibly Australia's most endangered bird species and one of the worlds' rarest parrots. The Orange-bellied Parrot breeds in southwest Tasmania and then migrates for winter to coastal Victoria. it is the subject of an intense recovery program to stop it going extinct. I came across these birds at a location in Victoria in April 2018 feeding at dusk on weed seeds on the side of a road. Initially on first sight I thought they were the related but not endangered Blue-winged Parrot, that is known to occur in the area. But no, they were not. They were quite confiding and allowed us to watch them feed for many minutes. A special moment.......
