To make a short story long, I made a little tweet about this on Twitter, when I first heard ROOT! play this song called "Henry Fucking Wagons" at one of their concerts. I quickly got a reply from Henry Wagons, asking what he had done now! :P
Fast forward over a year later....ROOT! are no more. They have lost their keyboard player and their ever revolving door of drummers and become a three piece called The DC3, (as in The Damian Cowell Three). Their first new single is a song called "I Was The Guy In TISM" because the lead singer was the balaclava wearing member of This Is Serious Mum (TISM), Humphrey B. Flaubert.
Meanwhile, The Wagons are launching their latest hit blockbuster album, "Rumble, Shake & Tumble" at The Forum. It is the last gig of their extensive tour back in their home town of Melbourne and they have a secret unannounced guest performing five minutes before they hit the stage. Who could it be?
The Emcee of the night, Peter Escott of The Native Cats comes out on stage and makes the announcement. It's going to be a heartfelt tribute? Knowing the song, I couldn't help but think, "Well, we will see about that". It is more like a angry rant!
It was so great to see The DC3 perform this song on large stage of The Forum, complete with confused bemused looks in the audience. Thank you, The DC3 and thank you Henry Wagons for being such a good sport and making this happen. I was grinning from ear to ear!
We may never see the likes of This Is Serious Mum or TISM ever again BUT The DC3 is the next best thing! ㋡
A extra special thank you to my fellow photographer, Mr Paul Griggs who assisted me on this video shoot.
