The Petit Family Foundation was formed after the senseless murders of a mother, Jennifer Lynn Hawke-Petit, and her two daughters, Hayley Elizabeth Petit (17) and Michaela Rose Petit (11), during a home invasion on July 23, 2007. After being severely beaten with a baseball bat, Dr. William A. Petit, Jr., husband and father, escaped the basement to seek help. At a public memorial service, Dr. Petit asked those gathered to “help a neighbor, fight for a cause, and love your family” to honor the memories of his precious family and to make the world a little better place.
The GE 5k Road Race was one of the answers to Dr. Petit's call for action. It is held each year close to the anniversary of the deaths of Jennifer, Hayley and Michaela. This video is a montage of photos from the 2011 event and serves as a gentle reminder that good can overcome evil.
