Music by Om Unit & Sam Binga
Screen Test with Lewis Seagram near Winlaw BC in June 2015. About 90-min on the trail before dusk, no crew. Was initially thinking to shoot more of a 'proper' short film after this, but the screen test was all we got done. Just came across the footage on an old drive and that Om Unit // Sam Binga track was sitting in the folder alongside the 34 clips (which had been coloured black and white). Presumably this was my vision of that test shoot — if I shot it today I may have done so handheld at 24-fps with totally different music in mind, so this almost feels like a snapshot in time of films that never quite materialized. About 1-second of screen time per 1-minute on the trail (not a terrible ratio). Assembled it while procrastinating from "more important" work the other day. I've been having fun riding my bike lately, so perhaps I'll chalk the momentary sidetrack up to that. Maybe it's even time to make a bike film? In the faded light on our way off the mountain Lewis showed me a rebuilt 'Hurly Burly' — a classic drop featured in NWD1 that invokes memories of (reckless) youth, v-brakes, and Sam Brown, among other things — that Lewis had reshaped with 360s in mind.
