Late last year Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane launched an initiative to find the next great Superhero to represent The Stan Lee Foundation. We received an incredible amount of amazing submission from talented artists around the world.
Finally, the announcement we’ve all been waiting for is here!
"Creativity is the biggest component of what this contest was all about" says McFarlane. "I was looking for some originality for a character, as well as trying to imagine if this particular idea could be put into a comic book and have decade’s worth of stories spin out from it. Thomas Leopold's submission hit on all of those criteria."
Thomas Leopold grew up in Germany and had a fascination with comics since he was a child, so it’s no wonder he would grow up to be a comic artist. He created his first superhero, DER ENGEL (the angel), while taking comic classes and is currently working on the third book of his DER ENGEL mini series. As the winner of this Creative Invite he was presented with an award by Stan Lee and Todd MacFarlane at Comic-Con San Diego 2011 and spend a day with Todd McFarlane at his art studio in Tempe, AZ.
