On May 7, 2018, family, friends, students and colleagues came to The Riverside Church for the homegoing services of the Rev. Dr. James Hal Cone, a monumental figure in American theology and originator of Black Liberation Theology. He was the Bill & Judith Moyers Distinguished Professor of Systematic Theology at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York where he taught for 50 years. Rev. Dr. Cone died on April 28th at the age of 79. He took time to share his thoughts about my work and granted me an interview where he talked extensively about matters of politics, theology, and philosophy. I will treasure those moments and will be forever grateful for his warmth and generosity. At the funeral, Dr. Cornel West gave a fiery, heartfelt reflection of Dr. Cone that challenged us to carry on his social justice legacy.
