A trio performance for dancer and two musicians. Choreographed and performed by Deirdre Murphy, original composition by Niamh DeBarra and Emily Aoibheann. Wax Hands is about the moment of leaving this life, and the freedom of being unencumbered.
My body loves air but my heart longs for breathlessness
I watch my last breath travel upward, abandoning me as the river reaches her hand down my throat. bubble after bubble. panic being replaced by a surreal calm. no longer encumbered by the limits of what my body will allow. I feel myself flowing outward, following the bubbles to the surface, exploding up to rejoin the oxygen/nitrogen continuum.
this side, where i am rooted and firm; that side, where i will fly.
