October 15 to December 1, 2011

This Fall, four exceptional students from Ghana's Northern Region will travel to Vancouver, Canada to tell their personal stories of hardship and endurance at locations across the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Their stories will illustrate how education has changed their lives and why there is urgent need for girls to be supported in school beyond just the primary level, but all the way through to tertiary institutions. Through this speaking tour, they will be fundraising for Create Change, a Vancouver-based NGO with it's primary partner in Ghana that funds girls' education and water projects in Ghana's Northern Region. These well-spoken and passionate young women will be speaking for their sisters back in Ghana and every $200 they raise will send another girl to school for an entire year. So if you happen to be in the Vancouver area in Fall 2011, come hear the stories of Beatrice, Fayudatu, Gladys, and Faiza. Witness the potential that could be wasted and learn the difference that you can make.

A one-hour documentary is also being produced that will follow these four young women from their homes in Northern Ghana to Canada's rain-city, Vancouver, BC. The film will capture every step of their journeys, from the creation of their speeches, to small speaking engagements around Vancouver, to a headline show at one of Vancouver's largest theatres. The film will also reveal in images the stories that these girls will tell from their own mouths, stories of personal hardship, family sacrifice, and the pursuit of education. Lush imagery from Ghana's bustling markets and rural villages will play in stark contrast to the rain-soaked metropolis and lush, urban forest of Vancouver city. Follow these four girls as they travel half way around the world in an attempt to break the cycle of poverty for their mothers, for their sisters, and for their daughters.
