EXD'09/LISBOA — IT'S ABOUT TIME
Alejandro Aravena (b. 1967) an architect from Universidad Católica de Chile (1992) established his practice in 1994, after a year at Istituto Universitario di Venezia studying History and Theory. He is Executive Director of ELEMENTAL since 2005, a “do-tank” that develops social housing and public infrastructural projects in partnership with Chilean Oil Company and Universidad Católica.
Alejandro Aravena’s conference focuses on the work developed by ELEMENTAL and how it links with the IT’S ABOUT TIME theme. Exploring methods and strategies to use the city to promote equality, he explores social housing projects and the importance of the strategic use of form as well as socially conscious methods of implementing design and dealing with scarcity.
