HERE ARE THE STEPS FOR OUR FACULTY HOODING PLATFORM:
The Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony will include a platform to aid in the hooding of doctoral candidates.
The faculty member will step onto the platform and be lifted higher, to make it easier to hood the student.
From the top of the ramp, the student hands their stage pass to the designated staff member, and hands their hood to the Associate Dean.
The student and faculty hooder then walk to the platform.
The student stops in front of the platform and face the audience.
The faculty member steps onto the platform, and hoods the student with the assistance of the Associate Dean.
After the faculty member has hooded the student, they place their hand on the student’s shoulder, to alert the student to turn and shake the Graduate Dean’s hand. The student then starts walking across the stage to shake the Chancellor’s hand, and then exits the stage and returns to their seat.
In the case where a student has two faculty hooders, both faculty members step onto the platform to hood the student.
In the case that the student does not have a faculty hooder, the Graduate Dean steps onto the platform and hoods the student with the assistance of the Associate Dean. The Dean steps down from the Platform to shake the student’s hand.
