A short documentary about the hopes of Muntok, a small town on the island of Banka, Indonesia, produced during the mAAN Mentok Tin City Design Workshop.
The concept of ‘Exile City’ emerged out of a historical metaphor of Soekarno’s exile to Gunung Menumbing. The notion of exile resembles the atmosphere of isolation in search for healing and retreat.
What happens to Muntok after tin mining? What happen to its people? Like most of the small industrial towns, Muntok looks forward to the tourism industry amidst the national and international landscapes as a paradigm shift. Within this context, it is important to integrate the structure of the city and the relationship between locals and environment in order to sustain the town.
