Convention that PhDs are for academia and bachelors and masters degrees are for industry is changing as more and more companies focus on research and development activities as part of their business. It can be difficult for current and prospective PhD students to understand the wider role of the PhD and how the PhD program has helps individuals to succeed in both academia and industry. In the light of this, mentors of the School of Computer Science, University of Manchester, invite you to a panel discussion where panellists from both industry and academia will discuss:
- What leads them to their chosen path of academic or industrial research.
- Their current work and how their PhD has helped them to succeed in their career.
- Their views on the continued role of the PhD: do we still need them? Are there too many or too few?
