A Groton MA Main Street landmark, the Old Groton Inn, was destroyed by a four-alarm fire Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening and quickly spread through the old wood building’s many additions, escalating to four alarms that brought in more than 100 firefighters from 15 neighboring towns.
At the height of the fire, several sections of the roof collapsed along both sections of the three-story L-shaped structure. The fire was considered mostly under control by about 1 a.m. Smoke was still trailing from dormers this morning, as Groton fire fighters mopped up and checked for hidden hot spots.
