On 27th and 28th May 2018, Kilmersdon hauled the first steam passenger trains on the Helston branch in Cornwall for over 55 years as part of the Helston's 'Back to the 40s event'.
The Helston, which has now restored about 1.25 miles of the former branch line, had already hired a Peckett locomotive but its overhaul was not completed in time for this event.
Starting from Prospidnick Halt and calling at Trevarno, the video includes footage from the footplate. Later, we see the superbly authentic recreation of Truthall Halt and in the quietness of this remote country location we soon hear the distant panting of a steam engine as it hauls its coach up the grade....
Thanks are due to the footplate crew of Callum and Ernie.
