What is the Axis Syllabus?
It's a process towards deeper understanding, which i don’t see as ever ending.
I think it's a list.
Insight and research into adaptability, resiliency, a constant understanding of context...
An archive of information about the body in motion but also about how we study the body in motion.
Those informations are put in order with a logic and the logic is the relationships.
For me, it's also a practice of how to take information to become an embodied knowledge,
to become applicable, to become a wisdom.
We are a research community and we are using this platform of studying together and dancing together to look at the body and efficient effective ways to move through space.
What it really is for me personally though is a family, and so what magnetizes me to study more and work more truly are the people who are involved.
Often i think in the western world there is an impression that we are seperate from medicine and science and that other people have answers that we don’t have ourselves. The Axis Syllabus research community has been such a critical opening for me to become my own anatomist, and my own curious scientist and researcher, of my own body and movement and practices. So it's been very empowering in that way.
The credit that i felt i received as a student to ask questions, to doubt and research, really re-search, which i felt is always present in the Axis Syllabus, there is always a de-stabilization of terms and a re-investigation and a research. So there is not an absolute value.
We don’t want to fix a certain truth in it. I like that it is a proposal or a pool of different choices. I think the Axis Syllabus by itself will really makes sense once it gets a person that draws information out of it and also by the choice of practice that the person will then choose in order to find an application for this information.
As a performer and a dancer i am looking for material. I can use one of the principles for example how i can articulate my pelvis and where does that articulate? Like where is it in the spine where is it in the hip joints and the three different axis for example in relation with the planes, its already giving rhythm and space, consciousness. To give yourself the time to be, here, right now, with one principle that you use.
Yes, we can study the body and yes we share the same common structure. At the same time we are all different. So the idea also to help people to understand that we have so many different re-elaborations of the same concept.
The nature of pluralism is tolerance for discord and that maybe also that the privilege of disagreement is trust.
What i find also very very peculiar about the Axis Syllabus is that even though of course its Frey Faust that started with the idea of collecting information slowly it became a collective archive. Many informations are coming from different people that of course have different backgrounds, different cultures, they speak different languages, they applied the science in different fields, so it’s becoming richer and richer.
To create a space where people can benefit from the knowledge without having to conform to a particular spiritual or political point of view and we can always have our differences about these things, but everybody needs to bend their knees and use their spines in the meantime…
