For this “dream sequence” I was thinking about the vulnerability of females, babies, and roasts: honey-glazed and seductively garnished, but hobbled, and therefore incapable of quick get-away. I wanted the dancer to seem acted upon as much as she seems to be taking action, and to achieve grace despite these limitations. I was also thinking about the oscillation that can sometimes happen between being absorbed in a feeling, like melancholy, one minute, and then becoming absorbed by the drama of oneself as melancholic the next.
