Khokhe is a 9 years old Yazidi child, forced with her family to flee from Sinjar City under ISIS attack.
She developed the Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) which is a rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the peripheral nervous system. During the acute phase, the disorder can be life-threatening, with about 15% developing weakness of the breathing muscles requiring mechanical ventilation.
Her life was saved thanks to several improvements made by AISPO in Hevi Pediatric Hospital in Duhok (Iraqi Kurdistan), in particular the construction and the equipment of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
