Tariq moved to Milton Keynes from Islamabad, Pakistan. He talks about being a new arrival to Milton Keynes when the terrorist attack of 7/7 happened. He had never experienced being a minority before. He cites the importance of the friends that he made locally, who were welcoming and open, and shares how he feels integration is very important and that, ‘if it wasn’t for Milton Keynes being what it is, which is a group of migrants coming together forming this new city,' perhaps he may not have been welcomed with such an open mind.
This HLF-funded project celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Milton Keynes. We interviewed more than 50 people who have made the town their home, who shared their memories, experiences, and hopes for the future. For more information about the project, visit mkpeoplesstories.co.uk
