Brought to you by Revel Art Collective, "The Web" was conceived by Lauren Gucik as an altar for her mother, Mary Gucik, at the 2008 Dia de los Meurtos (Day of the Dead) celebration in Garfield Park, San Francisco. This was The Web's third year as an altar, and took place on November 2nd, 2010.
We invited passers-by to contribute letters, drawings, pictures, and mementos to honor their loved ones. Together we made this community altar.
This video documents the most important part of the web: the people and the process. The true memorial here is not the yarn infrastructure or even the messages that accumulated through the course of the night, but people coming together to celebrate life as a community.
All sound--music, voices, and revelry--was recorded at Garfield Park that night. Thank you to the amazing musicians that were present, including Kele´Self.
