MOUNTAINS UNDERWATER: MINGULAY
by Mara Marxt Lewis & Tyler Lewis
Mingulay conveys a personal experience of visiting the remote Scottish island of the same name, located at the southern tip of the Outer Hebrides. Presently uninhabited by humans, a variety of birds have claimed the isle for themselves and organise all their business from the enormous cliffs that face the Atlantic Ocean. The installation interprets the moment of peering over the edge of Mingulay’s cliffs and encountering a sonic world reminiscent of a raucous swimming pool hall.
