In collaboration with South Eastern Idaho Public Health, The Idaho State University Public Relations Students and the Idaho State University Dental Hygiene program, Idaho Oral Health Network partners coordinated a one day Teen Dental Day event titled, "The Greatest Smile". Public health professionals, community groups and businesses joined efforts in April, 2018 to sponsor a three hour event at Pocatello High School to focus on the integral relationship of oral health to overall health. At the event, ninth grade students learned of the importance of water over sugar-laden beverages, the role of acidity in the mouth and body, the connection between oral health, chronic disease and wellness, the impacts of tobacco and drugs on the body, how piercings impact your body, health professions and more. This effort came out of a goal for the Regional Idaho Oral Health Network in South Eastern Idaho that brings together diverse community partners and public health stakeholders with a focus on bringing oral health equity to Idahoans. Major coordination efforts were made by April Sluder of South Eastern Idaho Public Health and the tireless efforts of the Idaho State University Public Relations students. They hope to have a 2019 Teen Dental Day with even more community participation and students.
