An abstracted video of me performing a moment of Existential Kink (inspired by Lesson 2 of Carolyn Elliott's wonderful INFLUENCE - the life-altering course on mastering practical magic)
What is Existential Kink?
"The game and the invitation of Existential Kink is to practice letting ourselves get - a little bit madly, a little bit irrationally - turned on and playfully excited by “strokes” in life that we would usually use to turn ourselves off...... We have all these unconscious desires, many of them are quite taboo and “wrong” by the standard of our conscious mind (i.e., the desire for poverty and limitation, the desire to feel rejected, the desire to feel not good enough, the desire to feel offended)…. and though these unconscious desires are met in our lives by circumstances and events, we don’t usually allow ourselves to experience a sense of fulfilment and joy when these desires are met, because we habitually deny having them in the first place. The longer we deny that these dark desires are a part of us, the more they continue to shape our lives. So the notion here is that when we deliberately allow ourselves to gratefully feel and to celebrate and to receive the fulfilment of our previously-denied and disowned shadow desires, we give those shadow desires freedom and space and light in which to evolve." - Carolyn Elliott
The source material of this short video was taken from an excerpt of an Existential Kink session. I wanted to document my sessions but also use the opportunity to creatively abstract the footage in order to try and reflect the ''inner'' processes and summoning involved, rather than to purely show what it might look like from the outside.
I highly recommend viewing these videos on a cell phone rather than on a larger screen (due to their humble resolution), and listening to the sound-design with headphones.
