A performance of Festal Song, written in 1939 by John Morgan Lloyd to celebrate the town of Barry receiving its royal charter. It is sung by members of Barry Male voice Choir, Vale Voices and others and was arranged by Dorothy Connell and conducted by Rhiannon Williams Hale. The song was due to be performed publicly but the festivities were cancelled due to the outbreak of the second world war in September of that year. Instead it was sung by a choir of schoolchildren to an invited audience in the Memorial Hall. The song is not unknown in Barry and has occasionally been performed in the meantime, but there is no known recording of it. This project came out of my time as artist in residence at the Glamorgan Archives when I came across the music as part of my research and decided to record the song for posterity.
