Biodiversity foot-printing for financial portfolios: calculating the biodiversity impact of loans and investments of ASN Bank and resulting actions
Webinar presention by Wijnand Broer, Partner, CREM and Mark Goedkoop, Founder, PRé Sustainability for BBOP on the methodology, outcomes and the way forward regarding biodiversity foot-printing for financial portfolios.
ASN Bank is committed to ‘No net loss of biodiversity by 2030’ to protect the diversity of life and ecosystems needed to sustain people, businesses and economies. As part of this mission, the bank piloted a project to measure the impact of their loans and investments on biodiversity, based on a life cycle assessment approach and the ‘ReCiPe’ methodology.
Biodiversity foot-printing provides insights into the drivers of biodiversity loss and the impact calculated can be used as a proxy for impact on natural capital. The footprint shows which types of investments disproportionately impact biodiversity (hotspots), the reasons why (drivers) and what the results could mean for future policy and investment (action).
