House of Creativity (Rumah Kreatif) is a housing project that was built by a construction expert and seven street kids.
These children were selected, given a basic education and were then involved in the design process from the beginning.
My friend, Ary M Wibowo (twitter.com/arymwibowo) is the architect of Rumah Kreatif.
Rumah Kreatif serves as a home and also a place where these children can express their creativity. The house was built based on an eco-friendly concept which naturally concerns itself on the issue of safety. A good example of that is that the house does not use windows made of glass.
This video was created for Ary's presentation at the British Council's Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards.
In this first part, the construction expert and some of the children talk about about the impact that “Rumah Kreatif” made on their lives.
This short video is only a part of a bigger film project that my friends and I are working on.
I'm deeply concerned about the future of children like these in Indonesia. Their poverty should not stop them from receiving a good education.
These are talented children and full of potential that can be developed so they can contribute to the building of our nation.
