Hi I'm Justina Wongso, Business Structure Advisor at MWL Financial Group
Employees are entitled under the fair work regulations to holiday pay, and long service leave.
Holiday pay also known as annual leave is 20 days paid leave every year, accrued throughout the year. Holiday pay starts to accumulate from the first day of employment, and any unused holiday pay will roll from year to year.
Long service leave is paid leave on top of an employee’s annual leave, which is a way to compensate an employee for working for the same employer for an extended period of time. It is important to note, that unlike holiday pay regulations – long service leave regulations vary from state to state, therefore it is vital for employers and employees alike to be aware of the rules to know their obligations and rights respectively.
