JOSEF ALBERS. OUTSIDE THE SQUARE
This is a short version of our new documentary on Josef Albers.
After 30 years the Villa Hügel presents the first retrospective on the German artist with around 120 works. Albers is internationally best known for his "Homage to the Square" which he did start painting in 1950 since his death in 1976.
The film by Ralph Goertz follows his footsteps from his early years at the Bauhaus, his glass painting at Museum Grassi, his time at the Black Mountain College, his journeys to Mexico till his final paintings of the Square.
