Inspired by Robert Indiana's "Love" series which consists of paintings and sculptures, students thought of and painted a four letter word that would describe their wish for all of the people in Japan who are devastated by the recent earthquake and tsunami. They also wrote artist statements about their wishes. Some students wrote "Wishes for the World" as that was the original assignment. We switched our focus to Japan after learning of the devastating earthquake and Tsunami.
Please see the "Wishes for Japan" video on our Artsonia homepage. Within a matter of minutes after I posted this video to my Facebook wall, another art teacher named Mrs. Fuglestad from Chicago, sent me an email address of an art teacher in Japan named Mr. Makio. I sent him this video. His reply:"I will be eternally grateful for your video that you have given us." I shared this reply over the morning announcements at my school today. Students and colleagues were happy to know that our wishes reached Japan.
