DECLARATION OF DISCRIMINATION
By Angela Naranjo
To all the people who are listening me at this moment: which of you have never suffered any kind of discrimination? Which of you have never seen as someone was discriminated against? I don’t expect any answer because I think everyone knows what I’m talking about.
Discrimination in the classrooms of schools and universities. Discrimination in big and small companies. Discrimination on the street of your country and also on the streets of my country. Discrimination in everywhere…
Women removed from their jobs, gay people, disabled people, minorities ethnics not accepted by the society, people with low economic status. You or me. Doesn’t matter who. We all suffer the same.
The discrimination appear in the relations between different social sectors, whose origin and main characteristic is the negative view that a group has over another. But why we judge people who we don’t know? Why we are guided by stereotypes? Let’s sit down and think: what are the differences between a Muslim and Christian? And between black and white skin?, and between rich and poor? They are only different religious options, different physical or social characteristics. In my opinion, it is nothing important. There is not excuse for discrimination.
I know I can’t eliminate the injustices of the world alone, but I know, I can start to awareness you, because together, I’m sure, we can change so many things. I don’t want to dream of a world without discrimination. I want to live in a world without discrimination, do you?
