Time Attack, aka Superlap was first seen in Japan in the 1980s. Time Attack in itself is another term for Time Trial. Several cars are run on the track at the same time, with each racing against the clock vying for the fastest lap time. Cars are grouped into three categories, Clubsprint, Pro and Open Classes which make as much as 800HP+ on the high end of things. The Australian Superlap event was first held in 2008 at Oran Park Raceway in Sydney. Unfortunately Oran Park Raceway has since been sold off to build a suburb filled with houses, that no doubt all look the same.

Fast forward to 2011, Time Attack in Sydney is now one of the larger events on the Australian Motorsport Calendar with Time Trials, Drifting, Trade Show and a Car Show. This short Time Lapse was taken at the World Time Attack, this year at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney on the 8th August 2011. I was gifted a pair of tickets last minute, as expected there are plenty of amazing videos already on YouTube and Vimeo focused on the racing and the cars... I shot my Time Lapse mainly on the public areas.

Equipment...
I used a Canon EOS 60D with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Lens, Nikon non-ai 135mm f2.8 Lens, Intervalometer to take a photo each second and a nice heavy tripod, which on the most part stayed rock solid...

Camera Settings...
All shot as photos in JPGs at 16x9, Size was 3456x1944 to allow panning in software. Aperture Priority Mode (Av), ISO 160 and Apertures from f2.8-f16.

Editing...
Adobe Premiere CS4, Magic Bullet for the colour grade and faux Tilt Shift at the beginning... No Slider or Dolly, all camera moves are done in software.

Thank you to Philip Bloom for the inspiration and guidance for Time Lapse at your Sydney workshop at the beginning of the year. I’m happy to answer any questions.
