Dinah Maxwell Smith was born and brought up in New York City. She has been painting since she was 5 and knew that she wanted to go to the Rhode Island School of Design at 13. And did, graduating with a BFA in painting. Dinah has exhibited extensively in the United States, Paris, and Germany. She has lived in Southampton Village for 40 years and last year set a precedent in the annals of local real estate by removing the pool on her property and building a new studio. Dinah took a brief 2 ½ year sabbatical in 2005 to live in Taos, New Mexico, taking her 5 dogs, 6 cats, and a horse with her. Missing the Hampton landscape of trees, lawns, the ocean, dunes, seagulls in the parking lot, and summer traffic, she came home. Dinah’s work can currently be seen in her studio in Southampton or at a show in Watch Hill, Rhode Island during the month of August.
