Guiseley Community Foundation - which includes Guiseley AFC - have been running an ambitious programme of football coaching sessions at Wetherby Young Offenders Institute.
The sessions have been run in conjunction with Novus, along with PE staff at the Institute - and supported by Guiseley Community Foundation Sponsor, Golley Slater.
Legendary ex Guiseley AFC central defender and now academy and community coach, Danny Ellis, has been attending Wetherby Institute since mid February.
He’s been working with a group of up to 16 young men and taken them through rigorous football training sessions which build to sports leader qualifications or FA level 1 coaching badges.
In addition to the football training sessions, Guiseley are also working towards further experience opportunities at their home ground. It’s hoped that some of the young men, on licence, will be able to take part in maintenance and ground works and even possibly further their footballing skills at Nethermoor park.
And in fact the programme has been so successful that Guiseley have now been given an award from The National League Trust for the most innovative project of 2018.
