On Friday July 28th, at Oshkosh / AirVenture 2011, my friend Stan and I had the opportunity to ride along with Team AeroShell.
Flying in the lead aircraft with pilot Mark Henley, Stan wore a GoPro HD camera on his forehead while working a Nikon handheld camera. I was filming from the right wing aircraft (piloted by Bryan Regan) with a Canon Vixia HF301 HD video camera.
The full ride, from the hold short line on runway 36 through the aerobatic routine over Lake Winnebago consisting of a formation loop, wing over and barrel roll, is presented here for your viewing pleasure. Inbound to land, we were asked to hold over Warbird Island due to the amount of inbound traffic to Oshkosh, extending our airtime and allowing us to capture Lead marking our location with smoke for increased visibility of our flight to other aircraft.
We intentionally did not mask this film with a cheesy music track. Radial engines make their own music, and all you'll hear is ATC, Lead's radio calls, intercom communication and the sweet sound of a T-6 Texan.
