Fairphone is a social enterprise based in Amsterdam whose mission is to develop a seriously cool smartphone that is designed and produced with minimal harm to people and planet. In 2011, Fairphone undertook a fact-finding mission to Katanga, the most southern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Katanga's soil is rich of copper and cobalt, the latter being used in batteries for mobile phones. The Fairphone crew visited various parties in the industry, from high ranking officials to artisanal miners.
This short film shows you some high-lights of a very successful though bumpy expedition towards the heartland of Congo's copper belt.
