Artists, travellers, programmers, scientists, athletes – these are all impressive professions which never fail to attract acclaim. But what about metallurgists? Many assume they’re strange people with dull, routine, boring lives. We will prove them wrong.
Here is the true story of Konstantin Bychkov, a metallurgist from the city of Krasnoyarsk in Siberia (Russia), who is living his dream. He describes his vibrant, rich, and varied life in his own words.
He sees the beauty in nature, often hiking or rafting down the wild Siberian rivers. He loves spending time with his family and taking care of his children; he is a living example of perseverance and the right attitude to life. He plays the guitar. He writes poetry. He began taking ballroom dancing lessons as an adult. “If a person expresses themselves, that means they have something to say to the world,” says Konstantin.
However, achieving anything worthwhile in life does not come easily. Everything requires effort and self-mastery. “Very often things don’t work out, but you have to keep trying. You have to work through your pain; move past yourself; and, above all, get over your own laziness.”
It is not until the last few frames of the film that the viewer learns what job this extraordinary, enthusiastic person with an incredible love of life does. “We are floating along this river called Life, all doing our own thing. I want to leave a clear trail of kindness behind me.” Only at the very end of the film does Konstantin reveal that he is, proudly, a RUSAL metallurgist.
The film leaves the viewer in no doubt that it is strong-minded people like Konstantin who open new horizons for themselves and their company. They inspire others to live full and active lives and to take pride in their professions.
