On June 27 and 28, a delegation convened by YWCA USA and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and hosted by Sister Norma Pimentel of the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, Texas, will meet with and learn from the most vulnerable immigrant and refugee families and children who are impacted by the immigration crisis on the Southern border, and service providers who are working to meet their needs.
In this defining moment for our nation and this week of intense focus on these issues, speakers will share insights, concerns and perspectives about the unfolding humanitarian crisis gleaned from their experiences at the border, and identify actions that are needed to address the crisis and to keep this tragedy from happening again. We invite policymakers, Hill staffers, media, and advocates from the nonprofit sector to join us.
Invited speakers include:
Alejandra Y. Castillo, CEO, YWCA USA
Sindy Benavides, Chief Operating Officer & Acting CEO, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)
Maria Teresa Kumar, President, Voto Latino
Sister Norma Pimentel, Humanitarian Respite Center
