'Where Are We Now' is the second Music / Dance & Photography Collaboration at Barking Abbey School which stems from Ms. Murray's love of collaborating on exciting Photography, Art & Film projects with bands and musicians such as The Magic Numbers, ESKA (Recent \mercury Award Nominee) and Moulettes. Both Ms. Murray & Ms. Jones feel it is important for young people to experience working with outside professionals , beyond the classroom, so that they can 'see themselves' in their own futures : as dancers, camera people, artistic directors, editors, location scouts, make up artists...
'Where Are We Now' began as a writing workshop with local Nigerian via London Singersong writer LANRE supervising. Recording and Production was assisted by electronic producer Taylor Burton. All of whom met Ms. Niamh Murray on the ESKA/ Brighter Sounds Artistic Directors series in June 2017. The theme was 'Our Barking', which was challenging for students , describing their feelings of being suspended between a dream and a nightmare, uncertain of their futures in these uncertain times.
When the track was completed, the music was passed along to our very talented Choreographer & Dance Teacher, Ms. Georgia Jones who taught pupils from Year 8 up through to Year 12.
The Photography Department then worked with Ms. Murray to plan, direct and film on several locations around the local area including Eastbury Manor and also Manor Junior School.
'Where Are We Now?' is a collaborative Music/ Dance & Photographic Media short music video exploring these themes illustrating the importance of collaborative learning in schools. We hope you will enjoy our efforts.
Well done to all involved.
