The dark skies are filled with an eerie lapis smog. Rays of ultraviolet light slice through brown-grey clouds. Degrading shells of once-proud vehicles litter the streets. Suddenly a shadow moves slowly and determinedly across the blackened ground, metallic sounds permeate silence and screens light darkness. A band of dishevelled heralds emerge to tell their story.
There are no sound or lighting operators for this work. The movements of the performers control the projected visuals and digital sound processing in real-time. Everything you sense is being controlled directly by the movements of those on stage.
'Alternate Directive' was first performed in October 2008 at Shopfront Contemporary Arts Centre, Sydney, Australia.
