The BIG FIRE panorama was created by Stefan Roloff at NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) in 1984. It is one of the first artist- created digital videos, done on an Images II Computer prototype.

Roloff invited drummer Andrew Cyrille as a composer for this video, juxtaposing its electronically looped imagery with Cyrille's purely acoustic sounds, recorded by Henry Hirsch at Waterfront Studios.

Stefan Roloff also collaborated with Martin Rev and Jim O'Rourke on live- and installation concepts of this piece:
