The issue of car impoundments in the undocumented community is huge. Many local tow truck companies up and down the state make most of their income off the backs of undocumented drivers who have their cars towed for driving without a license. A license is something that undocumented families can not often legally acquire but driving to work and to pick up children from school are not things that families can do without. This is a short story about one families experience with this unjust practice which still occurs in many parts of California.
It can be a useful tool to humanize the victims of this practice and as a popular education tool to then organize against this targeted towing. Oakland and the SF Bay Area have won more humane practices by organizing against the car impoundments, you can too!
