This is a collection of videos sailing aboard the Chesapeake Bay Log Canoe racing ketch Island Bird, built in 1882.
"Log Canoes" are so overpowered by their sail area that they require 15 foot long springboards set overboard to windward, topped with crew, to stabilize the boats.
They sail a jib, foresail, mainsail, and sometimes a kite aloft the foremast.
They race on the Chester, Tred Avon, and Miles Rivers. Most boats are native to St. Michaels, MD.
