On Saturday 23rd of July 2011 a special introductory workshop took place at Florence Mine in Egremont and representatives and players of local sporting clubs were invited to come along and take part. This was the formal launch of the project, and to coincide we also screened a special preview of a new short film "Uppies and Downies" which gives an insight into the Cumbrian "mob football" tradition. This event was an official part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Open Weekend.
Pigs Bladder Football is an unusual new and experimental art project, which explores the historic and material origins of our beautiful game through hands-on workshops, games development activities, short films and exhibitions. The project is led by artist John O'Shea.
