Fulbright Canada and the US Embassy in Canada are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010-2011 Community Leadership Program (CLP) Awards! The CLP supports Canadian alumni of US government exchange programs who would like to make a contribution in their community. The CLP provides up to $8,000 to groups of three or more alumni who identify a need in their community and a strategy for addressing that need. The three grant recipients in our pilot year, are from Montreal (Quebec), St John’s (Newfoundland), and Toronto (Ontario).
Team leader Kevin Chin (Canadian Fulbright Student, 2005-2006, McGill University to University of Minnesota) hopes to inspire leadership skills amongst young people from disadvantaged communities using human rights education tools. Together with the NGO Equitas and his fellow Montreal-based Fulbright alumni Andrée-Anne Cormier, Jenny Montgomery, and Karis Shearer, Kevin will be running leadership workshops that engage both community educators and youth in issues relating to human rights.
