A Voice is a Void is a Voice, 2011
The piece is inspired by a biographical non-speech experience of six months while taking an antiquated, historical painting course in Belgium. Other than the Master Painter’s morning greeting – “Mesdames, Mesdemoiselles et Messieurs ” – the classes are always conducted in absolute silence.
Here, vocal matter is investigated, symbolically and sculpturally, as an atmospheric repository of past torments and as a gateway to vent out these unresolved emotive residues. From the voiceless to the void of the voice, the piece emulates a form of vocal exorcism and mirrors an occult manner of self-healing.
