c|a ARCHITECTS, in partnership with Turner Construction, is pleased to share a SNEAK PEEK of The Children’s Village at Miller Children’s & Women's Hospital Long Beach. Currently in Design Development, the 80,000 square foot, 4 story Village brings together over 30 specialty pediatric clinics, allowing families to receive all their care needs in a single location. The innovative Village is planned as a LEED-Certified building, bringing a cleaner and greener place for children and their families. A light-filled multi-story lobby and full-height windows along main circulation paths bring daylight to each of the clinics. A large rehab therapy gym opens to a shaded outdoor yard, bringing healing outdoors. The entire project is being developed with lean concepts, using pull planning across the entire Design-Build team; big room team coordination meetings; and the crafting of full-sized mock ups of nearly all treatment spaces in a 30,000 SF outdoor tent.
With input from multiple disciplines, physicians, patients and families, a shared goal emerged to create a building that supports a collaborative and efficient model of care, with a touch of fun. The Children’s Village uses light as an active and engaging part of the visitor experience; color will be cast through tinted glazing, and boldly featured on specific building elements, becoming a playful and intuitive organizational tool. Scheduled for completion in Fall of 2020, the colorful new Children’s Village celebrates the energy of all children through dynamic, light and active spaces, and playful, engaging architecture.
