In 1981 Greg Lowe and I got together for another film based on my interest in creating a rock climbing film about women climbers. At that point there were not a lot them. But certainly Lynn Hill from California and Beth Bennet from Boulder were two of the top women climbers of the era. Tim Huntley edited this film. It is not in chronological sequence but the idea was to create tension in the short film so we altered the pitches for those familiar with the Naked Edge. These two women became the first all women team to climb The Naked Edge. At the time it was a very highly regarded test piece. Both Greg and I feel good about getting the word out about females being on athletic pars with the male climbers of the day. I was inspired by Diane Hunter who died climbing in CO. She and I went out to do a difficult climb called the Northwest Corner. I was strong and approached the climb as such. Turns out I fell off and Diane asked to take the lead. She did and onsighted the climb using finesse and great interpretation of the holds. I was awakened to female power and parity that day. I hope your enjoy First Ascent.
